Enjoy 8 km of sheltered waterways with good quality recreational water in a secure environment with top class facilities.

At Century City Canoe Club, we offer paddling on some of Cape Town's safest, most sheltered waters — right in the heart of Century City. Our launch site offers easy access to the calm canals around the Intaka Island bird sanctuary and the Grand Canal, stretching past Canal Walk. Wind-sheltered and flat, these waterways are ideal for paddlers of all levels, from beginners to competitive paddlers. The club is also home to a vibrant community of paddlers who also take to the river and the ocean, and take part in organized events throughout the year.

Club Boats

The clubhouse is situated in a safe and secure area in Century City, shared with the running club. It offers ablution and shower facilities, along with a bar and social area — the perfect spot to unwind after a paddle. During the kayak season, weekly socials are offered at the clubhouse.

There are approximately 8km of waterways with natural ground water that is closely monitored by the Century City Property Owners Association in order to maintain a quality level fit for recreational sports.

Members also have access to club boats, convenient boat storage, and a boat trailer.

Time Trials are held every Tuesday evening at 6pm during the paddling season, from March to September, with 3km, 6km, and 10km routes available. Afterwards, it's time to relax at the club social, with catering on offer.

Weekly Time Trial

We offer an active Junior paddling programme welcoming paddlers of every age and ability, from first-timers in our stable Fluid Vaya kayaks to developing racers ready for a K1.

With coaching every Tuesday, a fun 3 km paddle, and a clear path into club events like the Time Trial, there's a spot on the water for every young paddler.

Juniors

During the summer many kayakers take to the sea in their Surfski’s . There is an early morning group of intermediate paddlers that sets out at 6am from the Milnerton Life Saving Club when conditions are good.
The favourite amongst experienced paddlers is to participate in the Wednesday Down Wind Dash, from Milnerton to Big Bay (10.5km).
Another favourite of paddlers of all levels is the Thursday evening Oceana Dice.
There are many spots around the Cape Coast to launch from i.e Three Anchor Bay, Oceana Boat Club in Granger Bay, Hout Bay, Fish Hoek, Millers Point.

Ocean Paddling

Winter is the season for river paddling in the Cape. When the rain arrives, paddlers check the water levels and head out to the river for either CSA affiliated races or to “trip” a river section. See our FAQs page for the steps to become “proficient” in river paddling. Communication on organised river trips will be via our club whatsapp group.

The club offers the use of a variety of club owned boats as well as easy access, secure storage facilities for member's boats.
